How will the social media ban work? That remains to be seen

The question on everyone's lips - how on earth is this social media ban actually going to work?

And the thing is, we don't know!

The way the government's social media ban law is written means that it's actually up to each social media platform to decide how it's going to work for them.

That means that how the ban works for Instagram might be different to how it will work for tiktok.

Each platform is going to have to have some way of verifying the age of its users and making sure you aren't under 16, but what that actually looks like remains to be seen.

They'll probably do this by requiring you to either upload your ID, drivers license, birth certificate or passport using the government's Digital ID software through MyGov, or, by using facial recognition software or a combination of both.

If you were the government, how would you roll out the social media ban?

Social media ban workshops are a great way to equip your students with the information they need about the ban. Enquire today for a workshop at your school, organisation or local government.
