Stories that make me wish social media wasn’t invented: Part 1

I'm driving in my car, it's a beautiful summers day with the sun shining, birds chirping, all that good stuff. It's a Sunday so I'm off to cricket and as I drive past a park I see a girl playing on the playground. And I thought to myself "You never see that anymore! How good!"

She's sitting on the swings, swinging back and forth. But there's something wrong.

I can't see her face because her neck is craned so far down it looked like it was going to snap.

And what was in her hands? Her mobile phone.

There is so much wrong with that situation:

  1. This is a child, swinging on the swings, head down, nose in her phone.

  2. Her friend is swinging on the swing next to her - but they aren't talking to each other. They aren't connecting or having fun.

  3. Even when we tell our kids to 'go outside and play' they are still relying on their devices.

We must do more to support our kids to live life offline. We need to teach them how to play without their devices.

Social media ban workshops are the best way to educate your staff, students and parents about the ban. Book in for a social media ban presentation for your school, organisation or local government.
